Serie A outfit Hellas Verona are looking to offer an escape route to Arsenal right-back Carl Jenkinson this summer. The one-time England international has just 12 months left on his Gunners deal, and he is a definite candidate to leave the Emirates this summer.
The 25-year-old has not managed to settle with the north London giants since his switch from Charlton Athletic back in the summer of 2011. Prior to last season, Jenkinson spent two separate loan spells with West Ham United with his second stint cut short with a serious knee injury from which he recovered in October 2016.
Jenkinson was tipped to earn regular playing time during Hector Bellerin’s injury absence last term, but he was particularly awful with his performances including one in the 2-0 EFL Cup defeat to Southampton which was his fifth and final appearance of the season.
According to Corriere dello Sport, Hellas Verona are planning an approach for the Finnish-born right-back as they seek to strengthen their backline on their Serie A comeback. The Italian outfit have fallen from grace in recent seasons, but they are looking to at least stay in the top tier next term with a view to progressing once more.
Both Jenkinson and Mathieu Debuchy are deemed surplus to requirements on the right side of the backline, and the pair were given a run-in for Arsenal XI against non-league Boreham Wood in a 4-0 friendly – where the former started in the midfield.
Jenkinson has previously attracted interest from Premier League duo Brighton & Hove Albion and Swansea City whilst his proposed switch to Crystal Palace in January fell through due to disagreement over contractual terms.
