Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar has hinted on social media that a switch to Arsenal is not happening at the moment.
The Frenchman has been one of the best in his position in Ligue 1 and played a big part in the club reaching the Champions League semi-final a couple of seasons ago. The 23-year-old had another stellar campaign in 2020/21, contributing with eight goals.
Aouar has been linked with the Gunners for a long time and Le10Sport claimed a couple of days back that Arsenal launched a transfer offer. Then the rumours went into overdrive when some reports claimed that the player’s brother who is also his agent was spotted in London. This caused a lot of excitement among fans.
These rumours went viral and the midfielder had to issue a clarification that the person wasn’t his brother or agent. The 23-year-old posted a photo on his Instagram profile with the caption:
“Guys leave him. He is one of my best friends not my real brother. By the way… not my agent also.”
Arsenal fans are unreal. Spammed the guy till he begged Aouar to confirm on Instagram that he is not his brother/agent pic.twitter.com/ENduLuaMOn

The fact that this sighting had emerged after reports of the Gunners making an offer added fuel to the fire. But it looks like we will have to wait and see how this potential transfer develops.
Arsenal Fever View
Aouar is just the type of midfielder the north Londoners need at the moment. The Frenchman is able to act as a playmaker while not neglecting his defensive duties. And the fact that the Lyon star can play multiple positions including as a winger adds to his appeal.
The fee being quoted for this transfer is much lesser than what was being asked last summer. This should be the moment for the Gunners to seize and bring the player to England. Adding the France international would be a real masterstroke and the youngster will certainly flourish at the Emirates.
There is still a long time left in the transfer window and we could still see Aouar joining the Emirates club. But for now, it is better to be cautious and wait to see, how this situation develops. There is no doubt about the midfielder’s ability and if he moved to north London, it would be an incredible signing.
