‘Great news, deserved’, Fans react as Arsenal begin contract talks with Kieran Tierney

Kieran Tierney

Arsenal have opened talks with Kieran Tierney over a new contract, as per reports in Football London and many fans have responded positively to this update.

The Scottish fullback’s development was one of the few positives for the Gunners last season after a dismal campaign that saw them finish eighth in the Premier League and missing out on European qualification for the first time in 25 years.

He had been involved in 27 league games for the North Londoners last season. He has made vital contributions on both ends of the pitch making him a valuable asset to the club.

According to Football London, the 24-year-old’s hard work is about to be rewarded as the club has decided to offer him a new deal. It further suggests that the former Celtic man is happy in London and technical director Edu is in the process of presenting a proposed contract offer for the board to sign off, which will then be presented to Tierney.

Although there are still 3 years left in the left-back’s current contract, the Emirates club are keen to tie him down on a long-term basis. The Scot’s commitment and attitude, both on and off the pitch, could earn him the captain’s armband in the future.

Mikel Arteta himself has hinted about Tierney’s vital role next season. He has been full of praise for the Scotland international, as he said:

“I think he can be Arsenal captain as he has the respect and admiration of every member of the staff and every player, It is just the way he is. He does it in a natural way.”

“He is a really shy boy as well but he represents all of us in the club; all of the values that we want to instill and are in the DNA in this club.”

The Emirates club are also in the market for a backup left back this summer as they’ve been lacking in the area when Tierney has been sidelined.

Here is how some fans reacted on Twitter:

Arsenal Fever View:

Tierney has been a revelation in north London since moving from Celtic back in 2019 and has been an integral part of the defence that was ranked third for the least number of goals conceded last season, so the club are keen to secure his services for many years to come.

Arsenal, in the past, have lost players on free due to mismanagement of their contacts. To avoid similar mistakes the North Londoners will look to make rapid and swift decisions regarding the fullback’s contract situation.

The Celtic academy graduate has become a fan favorite due to the passion and intensity he plays with. Tying him down on a long-term basis is the perfect way to start a summer overhaul. Tierney is exactly the kind of leader that Arteta should be looking to award the armband next season.
