Former Tottenham player blasts Arsenal over £30m Aaron Ramsdale bid

Arsenal

Speaking to talkSPORT, former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara has criticised the transfer policy of Arsenal.

The Gunners have made a couple of signings this summer, but both have been young players with an eye for the future. The next move that could go through is that of Ben White from Brighton And Hove Albion.

And now, the club have been linked with a bid for Sheffield United goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale. When talking about this to talkSPORT, O’Hara said:

“This literally sums Arsenal up doesn’t it. It sums them up, business-wise. They got rid of Martinez, who’s a brilliant keeper for what, £20million or something? Let him go, a snip, was one of the best keepers last season.

“And now they’re gonna go and sign someone from a relegated team for £30million, what are they doing? Who is doing their business there? Seriously. What are they doing? They are a mess.”

O’Hara has a point here, Arsenal made a mistake by letting Martinez leave but it’s quite common for clubs to mess up some of their transfer plans. However, lambasting the club for something like this is unwarranted.

While the signings or the links between players and the north Londoners are not for the biggest of names, they are for proper talents. The likes of Nuno Tavares and Albert Sambi Lokonga have joined to add more depth to the team. And the likes of White and Ramsdale have the potential to become world-class in the future.

A lot of investment was needed this summer after the Gunners finished in eighth place for two consecutive seasons. And it is good to see the club realise this and they have started to splash the cash and improve the squad. With some time left in the transfer window, we could be seeing more players come in and one of them could be a big star.

The north Londoners still have some work left to be done in getting all areas of the squad the attention they need. A major requirement is a creative midfielder, and it will be interesting to see if James Maddison is the one who is brought in. Arsenal have made a good start to the window and are showing that they have a plan for approaching it. The hope is that they bring in players who can improve the first team and not just add depth.
