Former Liverpool manager responds to Arsenal speculation about replacing Unai Emery

Until Arsenal decide on a new permanent manager, there is going to be a lot of speculation as to who will replace sacked Unai Emery.

Among the names that have been suggested, former Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez’s was also thrown into the mix. The Spaniard was asked about returning to England as a manager and potentially join the Gunners, he told Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football(via Goal):

“In the future I would like to come back to the Premier League because I like the league, but at the moment I can be very clear, there’s no chance I will come back now.

“I’m really pleased (with my current job), they trust me, they have a lot of staff working on a big, big project.”

Benitez is currently in charge of Chinese club Dalian Yifang where he is contracted to be until 2021. He moved there in the month of July after leaving his post at Newcastle United.

If the North London were trying to get him to the Emirates, they would have to pay a big compensation to get him from the contract of the Chinese club.

But if they were somehow able to do this, it would be a fantastic appointment as Benitez is one manager that is capable of elevating Arsenal to the next level. He already had quite a successful spell in England with Liverpool.

The teams that Benitez has coached are known for their organization and solidity and those are two qualities that are really needed at the Emirates. It is this kind of discipline that has allowed him to win both domestic as well as European trophies.

Benitez would also prove to be a popular choice among fans as his experience would be welcomed to a club that is desperate for some direction. Arsenal need to steady their ship and the win against West Ham was a step in the right direction.

The Gunners need to be playing Champions League football on a regular basis and a safe bet like Benitez would work well in that regard. Arsenal have a tough game against Manchester City coming this weekend and perhaps we might get some form of clarity from the club regarding the managerial situation.
