Former Juventus boss discusses return to management amid Arsenal links

Allegri

One of the names that has been linked with the post of the Arsenal manager is that of former Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri(as per Italian publication Gazzetta).

The Italian was let go in the summer and he now sees his name in the running for the Gunners job. Allegri has come out and revealed when he would make his return to management. He told ESPN:

“In June. I don’t know if you can call it a sabbatical or not. Giovanni [Branchini – Allegri’s agent] and I immediately came to that decision.

“As soon as the relationship with Juventus came to an end the decision was to take a year out.”

This is a blow to the chances of Arsenal getting him to the club during this season. If Allegri is indeed the first choice of the Arsenal board, they will have to wait until next season before he can move to the Emirates. This is not ideal for the club who would want a strong presence in the hot seat after the departure of Unai Emery.

Allegri is one of the most successful coaches in the history of Juventus as he took the team to four domestic doubles. He also led the team to two Champions League finals. Though they lost on both occasions, he was lauded for his tactical brilliance.

Getting someone of the caliber of Allegri to North London would be a huge coup for the Gunners. He will bring experience, tactical flexibility and the much coveted winner’s mentality. These are the qualities that the board will be looking for in the next man they put in charge of the club.

It is good news for the fans that the club is indeed looking at someone like Allegri which shows that they mean business. Things are not going to plan at the moment with the Gunners in the middle of a disastrous run of form.

It would require a lot from the new manager to get them out this mess they find themselves in. Making Allegri the new manager would certainly be a step in the right direction.
