Forget Ibrahimovic, Wenger ready to offer a club record-breaking bid for striker

Alvaro Morata

Arsenal are ready to offer a club record-breaking bid of £51 million (€65 million) for in-demand striker Alvaro Morata, according to Corriere Dello Sport.

The report has it that Arsenal are in negotiations directly with the forward’s former club Real Madrid instead of his current employer Juventus.

Real Madrid are reportedly planning to trigger the buy-back clause on the Spain international contract in order to negotiate a deal with Arsenal. The clause is believed to worth around €30 million.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is looking to bolster the team with three signings this summer and following Danny Welbeck’s knee injury, which has ruled him out for nine months, the French coach is on the look-out for a centre-forward.

It is obvious Wenger considered it a risk to have Olivier Giroud as the only striker next season. The France international went 15 league games without a goal last season before scoring four goals in the last two matches of the season. His goal drought contributed to the club’s failed title bid.

Wenger is a long-time admirer of Morata and he is keen on securing his signature.

Juventus also want to retain the 23-year-old and this could make it a little difficult for Wenger to sign him. But it appears it all depends on Real Madrid.

According to Juventus general director Guiseppe Marotta:

“Keeping Morata at the club is an important objective for us, but what happens at the Champions League final may have much to do with his future.

We’ll do all we can to fulfil his wishes to stay in Turin, where he feels he is at a club that is perfect for his career development”.

“Morata’s future doesn’t solely depend on Juventus despite our desire for him to remain here, but the outcome of the conversations with Real Madrid will dictate his future.”

The deal would break Arsenal current club record signing of £42.5m. Mesut Ozil was signed for that amount also from Real Madrid in 2013.

Morata joined Juventus in 2014 and has won the Italian league twice. He scored 11 goals and assisted another 10 in 46 appearances this season.

Arsenal manager Arsene wenger has also been linked with some striker with the likes of Paris Saint-Germain star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has former Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp huge manager Arsene Wenger to sign highly rated star ahead of rivals.

Arsenal fans will like the Gunner to break the bank and sign some new players and will also like to see some new faces at the emirate stadium next season, however, a player like ibrahimovic will be highly welcome by the gooners.
