Fans excited as Arsenal are linked with a move for Guido Rodriguez

Guido Rodriguez

Arsenal are exploring the option of signing Real Betis midfielder Guido Rodriguez according to Di Marzio, and fans have been excited by the prospect of landing the Argentine.

The 26-year-old climbed through the ranks at River Plate and joined the Spanish side in 2020. He made more than 50 appearances for them and his impressive performances earned him a call up to the national side.

The defensive midfielder won the Copa America with Argentina this month and is open to leaving Spain during this transfer window.

As per reports in Di Marzio, Real Betis have significantly lowered their asking price for the Argentine. He has a release clause of £70million but the Spanish outfit are willing to accept an offer in the range of £25million.

The report further claims that the Gunners are fond of signing him, but their interest is yet to develop into anything concrete at this stage.

Martin Odegaard and Dani Ceballos have already returned to Real Madrid. Matteo Guendouzi has joined the French side Marseille on loan. Lucas Torreira and Granit Xhaka have also been linked with a move away from the Emirates, which leaves the Gunners short of options in the midfield area.

This is how some fans reacted on Twitter:

Arsenal Fever View:

Guido Rodriguez is a name that has been thrown around a lot over the past couple of years. The Emirates side are in the market for a defensive midfielder with Ruben Neves and Yves Bissouma heavily linked. However, it seems Arsenal have reignited their interest in the Argentine midfielder as he is now available for a bargain price.

The former River Plate player has attracted admiring glances from clubs around Europe. He is excellent in aerial duels, tackles and can occupy a deep position in the midfield, providing cover to the defence during a counter-attack. He has been an integral part of his national side, making four starts and six appearances.

However, Rodriguez is not a player that can progress with the ball to the other half. Another point worth noting is that he is already 26 years old, so it would more rational if they signed Yves Bissouma or Ruben Neves who are younger with proven Premier League quality.
