Eddie Nketiah informs Arsenal about his desire to leave

Eddie Nketiah

As per a report from Daily Mail, Eddie Nketiah has told Arsenal about his desire to leave the club despite the best efforts of manager Mikel Arteta.

The striker who has been with the Gunners since 2015 has been impressive whenever given a chance. But due to the presence of multiple senior forwards, he has not been able to lay claim to a regular starting spot.

The Daily Mail report that the England international who is in the final year of his contract has informed the club of his desire to leave. Arteta made a last-ditch effort to convince the player, but Nketiah is on the lookout for a new challenge.

With the 22-year-old able to talk to other clubs from the first of January, the north Londoners could lose him without getting anything in return. Both Crystal Palace and Borussia Monchengladbach are reportedly interested in exploring this option.

Sky Sports also report that there is no problem between the manager and the player. It is just that Nketiah wants to be in a position where he will get more first-team football.

Arsenal Fever View:

The Gunners did the wrong thing by not selling the striker last summer as they could have gotten something for him. With the likes of Folarin Balogun and Gabriel Martinelli already waiting in the wings, it does not make sense to keep hold of the former Chelsea youth product.

From the brief matches that he has played this season, it is clear that the 22-year-old has worked a lot on his overall game. That has allowed the Englishman to become a more complete forward and one that works hard even without the ball.

It appears that Arsenal have resigned themselves to losing Nketiah for a free as a new contract has not yet been agreed. If something were to happen regarding a new deal, it would have already happened. But at the age of 22, it is time for the striker to look for a club that would give him more chances to play.
