Deal Close: Arsenal reach verbal agreement with highly-rated Italian ahead of summer move

Allegri

Arsenal have reportedly reached an agreement with Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri, which will see him take over the reigns at the Emirates at the end of the season, according to reports in Express.

The North London club have already offered a new two-year contract to Wenger, which would extend his stay until 2019, but the Frenchman is yet to decide on his next move.

There has been immense pressure on Wenger to step down at the end of the season from a majority section of the club’s supporters after disappointing results over the past few months.

The report in the Express further states that Allegri has agreed to take over the reigns at the North London club at the end of the season. The current Juventus coach is now waiting on Wenger to make a decision on the two-year contract offer.

The Arsenal board have asked Wenger to decide on his future before the end of March so that adequate arrangements can be made if the Frenchman decides against signing the contract.

Allegri had been the subject of interest from Chelsea prior to Antonio Conte’s appointment earlier last summer, and it is understood that he would relish an opportunity in the English top-flight. The Italian has also been asked to shortlist

The Italian is set to leave Juventus after a fall out with senior players and the report further claims that he has also been asked to shortlist any potential transfer targets and had them over to the Gunners board.

The Italian boss has been deploying 4-2-3-1 in recent months, and he would have no difficulty in adapting to the Gunners’ setup, should he arrive in the summer.

Wenger has led Arsenal to three Premier League titles and six FA Cup wins, but his last League triumph was back in 2004, the prospect that the former AS Monaco boss could leave Arsenal is becoming more likely.

Allegri would be a top-class replacement for Wenger, as the Italian has won three Serie A titles as a manager, two in consecutive seasons since he took over from Antonio Conte at Juve in 2014.

He is tactically astute and has a good recent record in the UEFA Champions League, having led Juve to the final in 2015 and would arguably be a safe option for the Gunners owing to his experience of winning titles and going deep in the Champions League.
