Patrick Vieira has confirmed that Spotify CEO Daniel Ek will continue his pursuit for an Arsenal takeover, as per The ITV Football podcast.
In the wake of the Super League fiasco, the Spotify founder took to Twitter to reveal his desire of buying the North London club. He did launch a formal bid a couple of weeks back but it was quickly turned down by the Kroenke’s.
The club’s inclusion and subsequent withdrawal from the breakaway league had caused unrest among fans and sparked wild protests outside the Emirates. This adverse situation could be favorable for the Swede but the Kroenke family remain adamant on their current stance.
Ek, a lifelong Arsenal fan, has been backed by club legends Patrick Vieira, Thierry Henry, and Dennis Bergkamp in his attempts to replace the current owners and Vieira insists Ek is not going anywhere. Speaking to ITV Football podcast, he said:
“He’s definitely going to try again. He is going to be there for quite a long time. He’s a massive Arsenal fan. And talking to him a couple of times his desire and his commitment to Arsenal football club will be fantastic.
“Obviously, if the club is not for sale there is nothing that he can do but he’s going to be there and he’s going to wait and he wants to buy the club.”
Vieira was also not pleased with Arsenal’s progress in recent years. He further added:
“In the last couple of years I believe that the club didn’t take the right direction. And I think it is time for change. If the change doesn’t happen, I believe that Arsenal will be in a difficult position.
“But we get to the time where everybody at the club, the Kroenkes need to get more involved to take Arsenal back where he thinks the club should be. If that’s not the case, I think it is time for them to let the club go and let somebody else take care of the football club.”
Stan Kroenke has been with the North London club right from 2007. Since then the American has been buying shares at the club. By 2018 he was able to take the club into private ownership.
Although Kroenke is considered one of the richest owners in the Premier League, reports suggest that not a penny has been put into the team by him, either in debt or equity financing.
It is frustrating to see that Kroenke with a net worth of around $8.2B, is not willing to spend any money for the growth of the club. The fans have been skeptical about the American ownership for a long time and the recent Super League debacle has just furthered their doubts.
Daniel EK along with the legendary trio remain resolute in the takeover but it would require something out of the blue to dethrone the Kroenke’s who recently released a statement that they were ‘100 percent committed’ to the club.
