Daniel Ek’s pursuit to takeover Arsenal has reignited as Stan Kroenke is set to be fined a hefty amount over his team, Los Angeles Rams’ relocation, according to The Sun.
The Spotify owner took to Twitter to express his desire of taking ownership of the north Londoners back in April. He even launched an eye-watering bid of £1.8billion in May, which was dismissed quickly by the Kroenke hierarchy.
The entrepreneur back then claimed that he remains interested in a takeover should an opportunity arise. He is being backed by a consortium that includes club legends Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp, and Patrick Vieira.
As per a report in The Sun, the Swedish billionaire is telling his friends that the latest developments in a court case involving the Arsenal owner, Stan Kroenke, has increased his chances of buying the Emirates club.
Kroenke along with the NFL is being sued by the city of St. Louis for allegedly violating their policies and settlement fee during the Rams’ relocation from St. Louis to Los Angeles.
The case is reported to cost over £700million in compensation. Ek is now ‘convinced’ that the recent turn of events will help his cause if Kroenke is forced to pay the fine.
Arsenal Fever View:
Although the Kroenkes are in a financial predicament it remains unclear if they have altered their stance on the ownership. As soon as the European Super League debacle lost traction among fans, the current owners released a statement in which they assured they were 100 percent committed to the club.
The Gunners have also completed a couple of signings in a short span of time this summer and are linked with some big money moves for other players which would be unlikely if there was a change in ownership in the near future.
However, Ek himself has not ruled out the possibility of another bid. While the Arsenal fans’ anger towards the current owners is understandable, a change in the hierarchy during such a crucial part in the transfer market could disrupt the transfer plans plotted by Mikel Arteta with the new Premier League season just a fortnight away.
