Arsenal head into the international break on the back of a 1-0 win over Watford and one of the players who played a crucial part in the victory was Nuno Tavares.
The victory has extended the club’s unbeaten streak to ten matches and they are just two points behind Liverpool who sit in fourth. It was a hard-fought win over the Hornets as the Gunners were not clinical enough in front of goal.
But to their credit, they fought hard in defence and ensured that the visitors could not score. A big part of that was down to the performance of Nuno Tavares who excelled on both ends of the pitch.
The victory was secured thanks to a fine finish from Emile Smith Rowe who has scored in his last three Premier League games. After that, it was a case of the hosts looking to control possession and prevent Watford from creating too many chances.
One way they could do that was to use Tavares as an outlet when bringing the ball into the opposition half. Thanks to his speed and dribbling abilities, the young left-back was a constant threat and made it harder for Claudio Ranieri’s men to get out of their own half.
The Portuguese international was praised for his performance and so far, he has done a good job filling in for Kieran Tierney. The Arsenal supporters took to Twitter to show their appreciation and here are some of the best reactions:
Nuno Tavares is an Alpohonso Davies regen but with less PR

Nuno Tavares is a superb footballer, I love KT3 but I can’t see him slotting straight back in when fully fit. Good competition in that position🤌🏼🔥

@NunoTavares this guy played out his skin today. Aggressive, decisive, passionate and the quality to go with it. #AFC

Arsenal Fever View:
Having capable players who can fill in when someone is injured is crucial for any club and the Arsenal have done well to sign Nuno Tavares. It gives Tierney some time to get ready and be back when fully fit.
Apart from being solid in defence, the 21-year-old is excellent on the ball and that helps when looking to counter. With his pace, he is able to bring the ball out of the defence and into a dangerous area. It was his driving run on Sunday that led to a Watford player getting sent off.
Arsenal have done incredibly well to bounce back after a tough start to the season. They are in the hunt for the European spots and can take a deserved break now. With players like Tavares contributing in an impactful way, it makes the club’s future look better.
