As per a report from Italian publication Tutto Mercato Web, Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo has agreed to join Arsenal this month.
The Brazilian made waves after joining Barcelona from Gremio and went on to become a crucial part of their midfield. That led to a move to Italy but the 25-year-old has not fully been able to establish himself.
Tutto Mercato are claiming that Melo will move to north London on loan if Arsenal can convince the Italian club. There are a couple of reasons why Juventus have not accepted this deal yet. One of them is that they would like the midfielder to continue being a part of their squad and the second is that they would require a obligation to buy their star.
For now, the Gunners have offered a loan deal that does not include any clause to buy but if something were to be included, the Italian giants would be more than willing to agree. The report also states that despite the player’s approval, it is far from being completed.
Arsenal Fever View:
The north Londoners are in desperate need of reinforcements as they desperately need some central midfielders at the moment. The only senior options available are Albert Sambi Lokonga and Granit Xhaka.
With Mohamed Elneny and Thomas Partey, off to the AFCON and Ainsley Maitland Niles having left on loan, there isn’t much that Mikel Arteta can do. If the Gunners can bring in the Brazilian as quick as possible, that would go a long way in solving a problem.
They would probably prefer having a dry loan that does not include any kind of obligation. That way, if an opportunity arises to sign a better player in the summer, there would be nothing preventing that.
As much as Arsenal need to bring in some cover, it does not make sense for them to keep haggling with Juventus. This is a deal that needs to happen as soon as possible as the games are coming thick and fast. Arthur is a player who is technically brilliant and his willingness to come may prove to be the deciding factor.
