Arsene Wenger reveals update on Arsenal transfers after Stoke defeat

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has admitted that he does not expect any activity in terms of new signings following a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Stoke City.

The Gunners dominated the play at the Bet365 Stadium with more than 77 percent of possession, but they were again left down by sloppy defending which allowed Potters loanee Jese Rodriguez to score the winner.

Speaking to reporters following the game, the Frenchman insisted that his focus on trimming the first-team squad rather than bringing in new recruits reacting to the loss.

The long-standing manager also insists that he has 33 players in his squad which is too many, although he appears to have lost the count after the departure of Gabriel.

“I expect to sell players first[before we buy], you know, that’s all.”

“I expect some players to go because we have too many players and it’s not manageable,” he said in his press-conference h/t Metro.

“Many clubs are in this situation that’s why the transfer market is quiet. So we have 33 players at the moment. That’s too many players! I am not after a game like that just in a transfer mode.”

Meanwhile, the 67-year-old also provided some good news on the injury front as he expects Alexis Sanchez to take the playing field when the Gunners make the visit to Anfield next weekend, he added:

“If all goes well though the week he should be available to be selected for our next game, yes.”

Sanchez has missed the past two games with an abdominal strain, and his presence next weekend would provide a huge boost for Arsenal following a tough defeat at Stoke where a couple of refereeing decisions went against them.
