Brentford striker Ivan Toney while talking to Baller Talk, has said that Arsenal are not going to be winning anything soon.
The newly-promoted side made their return to the topflight of English football after many decades, this season. Their first game was against the Gunners and the result was not one that many would have expected.
As the Bees ran out 2-0 winners, it led to a run of three consecutive losses for the north Londoners. When Toney was asked about the difference between the Premier League and the Championship, the striker spoke about Arsenal:
“Arsenal fans are going to batter me for this, but you see Arsenal at the moment and they’re not the best.
“There was a difference [between the Championship and the Premier League], don’t get me wrong, but it wasn’t crazy like: if you make a mistake, it’s going to end up in the back of the goal. I didn’t really see that. They were good at keeping the ball, but it didn’t really affect us.”
And when the Englishman was asked about the Gunners’ chances of winning anything, the 25-year-old also told Baller Talk:
“I just didn’t see them how they used to be. You used to look at Arsenal and think [they were] crazy and they were going to win this game, win this game. These days, I don’t see them winning nothing any time soon.”
Arsenal Fever View:
While there is definitely some truth to what Toney has to say, it does not represent the full story. The north Londoners are on a downward spiral at the moment but have won a trophy in each of the last two seasons. The tough start to this season has not been helped by the absence of certain players.
What fans would want to see is the club getting back to where it belongs, but it is unclear as to how long that is going to take at the moment. There is still a long way to go for Mikel Arteta before the Gunners can be happy about the direction, they are headed in.
Arsenal need to take a good look at themselves to understand when they can be winners again. The words of Toney may seem harsh but there is truth to what the striker has to say. It is up to the club to change that perception.
