Arsenal could lodge a club-record £75m bid for Juventus’ Paulo Dybala, should Max Allegri take over the reigns at the Emirates next season.
The Gunners are understood to have verbally agreed terms with the Italian head coach, but a final decision is likely to be made before the end of the month.
Arsene Wenger has been urged by the club’s hierarchy to change his style of play, and there could yet be the chance of the Frenchman being offered a fresh two-year extension in north London.
According to The Express, the Gunners will seek to lodge an attempt to recruit Dybala in the summer, if Allegri is to succeed Wenger at the helm.
Allegri has already handed a warning to the Gunners’ board to decide on the managerial position, and his arrival could, in turn, see a move for the highly-rated Dybala.
Dybala, 23, is being seen as a potential summer replacement for contract rebel Alexis Sanchez, but he won’t be available on the cheap with the Old Lady prepared to play hardball in discussions.
The striker hasn’t yet committed his future to the Old Lady beyond 2020, but the Gunners will still have to cough up fees in excess of £75m to bring the Argentine to the Emirates.
Dybala has largely played second fiddle to Gonzalo Higuain for the role in the middle, and he could jump at the opportunity of joining one of England’s elite clubs.
The marksman was previously linked with the Gunners prior to him leaving Palermo for Turin in the summer of 2015. He has since fared well with the Serie A holders with 36 goals across all competitions, but most notably just eight in 21 league outings since Higuain’s arrival last summer.
