Despite us being in the last week of the transfer window, Arsenal do not seem to be done with their dealings.
There are many reports stating that Calum Chambers is on his way out of the Emirates with a loan move to Fulham being in the offing.
The man that Arsenal have chosen as the replacement for the Englishman is Croatian defender Domagoj Vida, according to reports in Turkish Football.
The report further states that the North London club will sign Vida if Chambers joins Fulham on loan. The deal is said to cost the Gunners £17.9m.
He was an important member of the Croatian team at the World Cup that reached the final and lost to France.
The rumors regarding Vida seem to be gaining momentum in the past few days and it seems like a real possibility that the Gunners will go for him. It does seem a little odd that Arsenal will try and buy another center back who is approaching 30 but by the looks of it, that may be the case.
Chambers just recently extended his contract with the club and it was expected that he would play a major role for the Gunners this season. This was particularly intensified by the retirement of Per Mertesacker and the long-term injury suffered by Laurent Koscielny.
Given the reliable sources that are reporting about the Chambers deal, it seems almost a certainty that he will leave the club and should that happen, Vida will be brought in.
The other options that Arsenal have at center back are two young defenders who have a lot of potential, but are not thought of as starters at this moment. Those two would be Rob Holding and Konstantinos Mavropanos who have shown many glimpses of how good they can be.
Arsenal are in a position where they have to fix their defense otherwise there is no hope of them getting back into the Champions League. And if the club has identified Vida as the man to fix the issues that exist in the Gunners squad, then the club and the management have to be trusted.
