Inter Milan are willing to offload Steven Jovetic for £11.5m and Arsenal will attempt to sign the Montenegro international this summer, according to the reports from Mirror.
Jovetic, 26, was strongly linked with a move to the north London when he was at Fiorentina before he completed an eye-watering deal to Manchester City back in the summer of 2013.
While the 26-year-old was at the Etihad Stadium, he endured a very devastating two years as he bagged just 11-goals in 39 appearances for the Citizens, before he was later sent out on loan to Inter Milan with the Serie A giants having an obligation to pay £11.5m to make the move a permanent one this summer.
On the other hand, Jovetic has also found it difficult to establish himself at the San Siro as he just netted 7 goals in his 28 appearances in all competitions for the Serie A giant.
It appears that Inter Milan wants to offload the striker according to the reports from Mirror and are planning to sell Jovetic to the highest bidder and in turn pay off the debt they owe the Sky Blues.
In the light of that, the Gunners could succeed in the move for the Montenegrin forward as they have shown initial interest in rolling out a deal in front of the player but they will be facing stiff competition from Russian club, Spartak Moscow for Jovetic signature.
The Russians were already interested in signing the Inter Milan star, thus the North London club may have to pay a little more to beat the Russian side’s bid for Jovetic.
Who knows how much truth there is behind these reports as there is plenty of speculation flying around these days but we know Arsene is in the market for another striker after losing Danny Welbeck for nine months.
With Jamie Vardy looking increasingly likely to snub his proposed move to Arsenal and instead stay with the Premier League champions, Wenger needs to look at other avenues and Jovetic could be the Frenchman new point of target.
Back in the 2011-2013 campaign, the Montenegro striker was undeniably excellent for Fiorentina but recently his career has seen a downward slide, so he would be a risky signing.
Maybe Wenger is betting on the fact that he can get the Milan forward back to his best while at the Emirates and the reported price-tag of £11.5m on him will be attractive.
However, I feel Arsenal should be aiming higher for a top striker than Jovetic. Far and wide, we are known to be desperately in need of a good forward and in order to achieve that, the Gunners needs an experience striker who’s among the best in his position.
Perhaps I think Alvaro Morata could fill the void space in the squad as he shows to be a player who’ll come straight to the Emirates and be ready to do the business.
