As per a report from Belgian outlet, DH les Sports +, Arsenal could announce the signing of Albert Sambi Lokonga today.
The midfielder has emerged as one of the most highly-rated talents in Belgium and has become a mainstay in the Anderlecht team. A pacey, skillful and tactically intelligent player, the 21-year-old has all the capabilities needed to shine at the Emirates.
According to the report, Lokonga who arrived in London on Saturday has completed his mandatory quarantine and the Gunners could announce the deal today barring any problems with the youngster’s health.
DH les Sports + also provided an update on what shirt number the Belgian midfielder is going to wear. They state that the new arrival will be given the no. 48 which is quite unusual for the north Londoners.
The senior members of the squad usually have numbers that range from 1-35 and the rest go to the youth team and academy players. Giving Lokonga 48 would be an unusual move by the club, but it makes sense as it is what he has worn for Anderlecht.
Arsenal Fever View
This transfer has been moving closer and closer to being completed and it is good that we have some light at the end of the tunnel. Though the midfielder would not be able to take part in the Scotland leg of pre-season, it would be possible for him to join the touring party to the USA.
Lokonga will become the second arrival at the Emirates this summer after left-back Nuno Tavares came from Benfica. This shows the Gunners are looking to add some depth to their squad by bringing in young players that have high potential.
It is a good strategy for the north Londoners, and it shows that they can be shrewd and smart in the market if they want to. The hope is that the club are not satisfied with these signings alone and will look to further strengthen the squad.
Arsenal are set to announce the transfer of Lokonga which is an exciting one because of the player’s ability and potential. Hopefully, there is more to come this summer.
