Arsenal are reportedly preparing a third bid for Brighton & Hove Albion defender Ben White as per a report in Sky Sports.
The 23-year-old has emerged as a potential target for the north London club, having produced an excellent debut season in the Premier League. The defender made 36 appearances in the league last season, contributing to 11 clean sheets for the Seagulls.
Following a productive campaign in the top-flight, the Englishman was rewarded with his first call up to the senior national squad. He made two appearances in the friendlies ahead of the Euro 2020 but is yet to make an appearance in the competition.
According to the report in Sky Sports, the Gunners are putting together a third bid for the Brighton defender, after their first two bids were turned down by Graham Potter’s side. Both parties are continuing negotiations, with the Emirates club hopeful a deal can be agreed upon.
The report further claims that Brighton owner Tony Bloom is ready to let go of their asset this summer if the player wants to leave and their valuation is met.
Meanwhile, speaking to PLC’s Transfer Window podcast Duncan Castles has revealed that Chelsea are ready to go head-to-head with the Emirates club for the Englishman’s signature, the journalist said:
“I now understand that Chelsea have notified the player of their interest in signing him. I think that’s significant competition for Arsenal because Chelsea obviously can offer Champions League football”
Arsenal Fever View:
Ben White will be a shrewd purchase for Arsenal. The defender has already showcased his ability to adapt quickly. After enjoying an amazing season in the Championship, he has infused himself in the Premier League like a fish in the water.
The defender’s ability to play out from the back will help Mikel Arteta’s side escape the opposition’s high press and his versatility will allow the Spanish boss to deploy him in midfield.
The Englishman’s most impressive attributes are his consistency and fitness. Despite Championship’s demanding schedule, the youngster started in every game for Leeds United(on loan), during the 19/20 season. He also made 36 appearances in the Premier League last season for Brighton.
Ben White will bring a calming influence to the Gunners’ defence. The defender has the necessary abilities to fill the void of departing David Luiz, however, his high price tag will create extra pressure on him.
