Arsenal Team News against Southampton: Partey, Tomiyasu

Arsenal Team News

Arsenal will look to pick up the pieces of their Champions League fight as they travel to Southampton looking to get back to winning ways, so let’s take a look at the team news.

The Gunners lost their second match in a row as they succumbed to Brighton and Hove Albion. More than the result, it was how toothless the team looked in the attack that would have worried Mikel Arteta. Now is the time for the visitors to show that they have what it takes to finish in the top four.

As for the team news, the two players who definitely will not make this trip are Kieran Tierney and Thomas Partey. The former has had surgery on his knee and is out for the rest of the season. The Ghanaian midfielder had a recurrence of a thigh problem, and it is not known when he will be back.

The north Londoners will also have to do without the services of Takehiro Tomiyasu who is recovering from a calf injury. This game might also see a return to the starting XI for Nuno Tavares as Arteta would like to have a natural full-back fill-in for Tierney.

Arsenal Fever View:

If the Gunners do not pick up three points against the Saints, they might have to kiss their top-four hopes goodbye. Tottenham already have a three-point lead and they are looking more dangerous than ever.

As for the visitors, they need their attack to step up big time and the likes of Alexandre Lacazette need to give the fans a reminder of their quality. If he can get among the goals, it certainly improves the team’s chances of doing well. The hosts are excellent at pressing their opponents so, Arteta would want his players to move the ball quickly.

Arsenal still have some hope left as they look to end the season on a successful note. This young squad has not always been up to the challenge but now would be a good time to rebound. Beating Southampton away is no easy task but the Gunners do have the talent to pull it off.
