Arsenal and Mikel Arteta take on Manchester City this weekend in what is going to be an exciting clash between a master and his student. Who are the players that could miss out on this game?
The Gunners host the Manchester side having started their Champions League campaign with a win. With a host of new signings, Mikel Arteta would like to get a win against a team that has really troubled him in the past.
As for the team news, the north Londoners could potentially be without a number of players. There are doubts over the fitness of Wiliam Saliba, Martin Odegaard, Ben White and Bukayo Saka. Speaking ahead of the match, the manager hinted that all four could be available.
But in the case of Saka and White, it is more likely that the club decides to not rush them in. Given that their alternatives are doing very well, the team can afford to take on a giant like City despite these absences.
The case of Odegaard is a curious one because the team would benefit a lot from having their captain play and lead the press. But there is a risk of the injury being aggravated and that will be looked at.
Arsenal Fever View:
In the last couple of seasons, the tide has turned in favour of Arsenal who have become better at handling the juggernaut that is the Cityzens. But this season, Pep Guardiola seems to have found a formula to make his team defensively solid.
This along with their incredible attack headed by arguably the league’s best striker in Erling Haaland means that the north Londoners cannot be complacent. The hosts should focus on creating as many chances as possible for their new forward, Viktor Gyokeres. If that can be done, it will give them a great chance of winning.
Arsenal and Arteta will be aware of the pressure that comes with such an important clash. But if the north Londoners can create chances and be clinical in front of goal, they have the defensive prowess to secure the win. It will be interesting to see how the manager rotates his squad to manage the fitness of the players while still being effective.
