Arsenal still in the race to sign Dusan Vlahovic, reveals David Ornstein

Dusan Vlahovic

Journalist David Ornstein has revealed that Arsenal are still keen on funding a big-money move for Dusan Vlahovic this month.

The Serbian international has been in excellent form this campaign, scoring 20 goals in just 24 appearances, and is considered one of the most talented strikers in European football right now. Unsurprisingly, his impressive displays on the pitch have garnered the attention of several clubs.

A number of sources from Italy and England claimed that the north Londoners have been in contact with Fiorentina for his services. Mikel Arteta is, reportedly, determined to secure the star’s signature and has made him a top transfer target for the club.

But, there has been a lack of enthusiasm from the player’s camp over a switch to the Emirates. This indicated that a January move for him might not materialize.

However, Ornstein has revealed that Arsenal are still actively pursuing their interest in Vlahovic. With just over a week left before the January window closes, the club are not prepared to withdraw themselves from the transfer race. While speaking on his Youtube channel, Ornstein said:

“It’s a really delicate situation. With quite a few days in the window left to go, I don’t think it’s one that Arsenal are going to turn their back on. It’s one which Arsenal will need to lean on their ownership for support with (financially) but we saw that with Thomas Partey, for example.

“But when you speak to people around the game, the sort of numbers being touted for Vlahovic are not ridiculous for a player in that position. I find it quite fascinating that Arsenal are prepared to mix it in that market. ”

Arsenal Fever View:

The 21-year-old’s current contract with the Italian club does not expire until 2023, but he has refused to agree on an extension. This could put pressure on Fiorentina in selling him this month while his market value is on the rise.

With the uncertainty surrounding the futures of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette, and Eddie Nketiah, reinforcing their striking department should be a top priority for the Emirates club. And Vlahovic is, certainly, capable of providing the firepower they have been lacking in the past few weeks.

The Gunners have been linked with the striker right from the start of the transfer window. So, it is clear that Arsenal have genuine interest in a move for him. The supporters should be thrilled to hear Ornstein’s latest update.
