Arsenal still actively pursuing Manuel Locatelli, claims Fabrizio Romano

Manuel Locatelli

Arsenal’s pursuit of Sassuolo midfielder Manuel Locatelli received an exciting update from noted journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian played a starring role in his country winning the Euros and those performances have caught the eye of leading clubs including the Gunners. The 23-year-old would be the perfect replacement for Granit Xhaka who is close to joining Roma.

Speaking on the Don Robbie YouTube channel, Romano was talking about the north Londoners’ interest in Locatelli. The journalist said:

“Talking about him, I see rumours of an Arsenal bid, and this is what the Sassuolo CEO said some days ago, so we know that Arsenal are really serious with Locatelli, so their strategy is a waiting strategy.”

The Italian also spoke about the player’s priority being Juventus as he added:

“They know the priority of the player is to join Juventus, Locatelli wants to go to Juventus, and until Juventus are in negotiations with Sassuolo, he will push to join Juventus. If they agree, Locatelli will be happy to join Juventus, he is a Juventus fan since he was a baby and he wants to play in the Champions League.”

Romano finally mentioned what could happen if Juventus fail to agree on a deal with Sassuolo as he told the Don Robbie channel:

“If this agreement is not completed, keep an eye on Arsenal. They are ready, they are respecting the player, and also the player is appreciating how Arsenal are acting in this deal, saying that they respect his decision to go to Juventus as a priority, but if that deal does not go through with Sassuolo, they will be ready to jump in.”

If the player does want to join the Old Lady, it will be tough for the Gunners to convince him for a move to England. But it is good to know that the English side are waiting to pounce.

The Italy international will cost around £42m but would be an incredible signing and the north Londoners will be hoping that Juventus falter with their bid. We are likely to know the outcome of this transfer in the next few days.

Arsenal are doing the right thing by identifying players who can strengthen the team and Locatelli is certainly one of them. They will hope that their patience ends with them getting the player.
