Arsenal midfielder Joe Willock has reportedly agreed on personal terms with Newcastle United as per a report in Football Insider.
The 21-year-old has been sensational since joining the Magpies on loan, scoring eight goals in 14 Premier League appearances. Following his productive stint, manager Steve Bruce is eager to sign the Hale End graduate on a permanent deal.
According to the report in Football Insider, following the agreement between Arsenal and Newcastle for a fee of around £25 million(including bonuses), the deal was stalled last week as Willock didn’t agree on personal terms. But, the midfielder has now okayed a six-year deal with the Magpies.
The report further states that the transfer is expected to be announced imminently. Bruce’s side will be looking to finalize the deal before Friday noon to make the youngster available for the opening game of the season against West Ham United.
Arsenal Fever View:
Joe Willock’s departure has already raised question marks about the decision-making at the club. Following the 21-year-old’s impressive display at Tyneside, it was thought that the midfielder had showcased enough quality to break into Mikel Arteta’s first eleven. But, it was not the case.
Meanwhile, following Thomas Partey’s injury, the Hale End graduate could have been given a chance to showcase his talent at the start of the season as the north London club are short of numbers in midfield. However, it seems the Spanish boss does not fancy the youngster.
The Gunners take on Chelsea and Manchester City at the end of August and the midfielder’s energy and dynamism could have proven to be handy in the middle of the park.
However, cashing in on the academy graduate could prove to be the right decision, if the north Londoners can secure proper reinforcements. The club have been linked with multiple players and it will be interesting to see who will end up at the Emirates Stadium. Without a proper replacement, the decision of selling the 21-year-old might comeback and hurt the club.
