Arsenal progressed to the Quarter-finals of the FA cup after defeating Sutton United in a comfortable fashion to set up a clash with Lincoln City at the Emirates.
FA cup has always a maintained a constant supply of magic, giant-killing upsets and a touch of class over the years. This game was no exception as the North London club despite being ordinary, claimed victory with a 2-nil victory away at the Gander Green Lane.
Three players who stood out for the North London club were Lucas Perez, Theo Walcott, and Granit Xhaka by imposing themselves on the opposition.
Lucas Perez did himself no harm by continuing his proficiency in front of goal whenever called upon. He has certainly laid a valid claim for a starting berth in this squad with 7 goals and 5 assists in 9 appearances for the Gunners in all competitions so far this season.
Theo Walcott joins the elite class of players who have scored a hundred and more goals for Arsenal. This is achieved by scoring the winner against Sutton United thereby becoming a centurion.
He has expressed his delight on Arsenal Player by humbly claiming shock at the reality. Below are a few quotes from him:
On expecting the accomplishment:
No, not really,” Theo told Arsenal Player. “I always wanted to put my all in, hard work, but never really [expected to] be in that category of 100 goals for Arsenal.
“It’s great. I’m lost for words to be fair because I didn’t really think about it before and it’s just happened. It’ll probably hit me in a few days I’m sure, but I really enjoyed that
Then he concluded saying;
I couldn’t have done it without the guys as well, past and present, and I can’t thank them enough, all the players I’ve played with up to this point, and this group is brilliant. That’s a special moment for myself personally
On the drama front, now former reserve Sutton United goalkeeper Wayne Shaw has resigned from the club following an investigation by the English FA and Betting Board on misconduct.
It isn’t necessary to take humor and fun out of the game and more so, it provided comic relief for fans who never watched and might never see on TV again during a match.
The game was also temporarily interrupted by a berserk fan who ran through the length of the pitch almost naked. Furthermore, Alexis Sanchez also provided more comic relief when fans invaded the pitch at full time.
The Gunners displayed class on and off the pitch as the club gave donations in cash and kind to help the development of the National league side after the game.
It is moments like these that reminds us why we are proud to be fans of such a club. The heart and soul of the North London club side seem to be in the right place.
All that is left to satisfy the fans is a clear sign of ambition in our display during games and a fearless drive to fight for each other to achieve greatness.
