Arsenal register their interest in signing Renato Sanches

Renato Sanches

Arsenal have reignited their interest in signing Lille midfielder Renato Sanches and a transfer offer is expected in the coming weeks.

The Portuguese midfielder made waves as a young star moving to Bayern Munich in 2016 but the youngster could not hold down a regular spot. He eventually found his feet again after moving to LOSC Lille.

A few days ago, Gazzetta dello Sport had reported that the Gunners wanted to sign the 24-year-old but didn’t like the fee that the French club were demanding.

This was substantiated by Le10 Sport who stated that the Emirates side were very interested in Sanches and have informed the player and club about this. Although an offer is yet to be made, that could change in the coming weeks.

Also, there is reported interest from Italian giants AC Milan, and when the Portuguese was asked by L’Equipe about it, he replied:

“Maybe Milan and Arsenal are interested but I don’t know. I spoke with my agent, I know which clubs are calling and which are not, but I can’t tell now. But I know I’m ready. If an offer comes in, I’ll find out what’s best for me.”

If this move were to go ahead, the Gunners would bring in a quality player who has resurrected his career. The only sticking point would be his injury record but that too has improved over the years.

On the other hand, the north Londoners do require another option in midfield. The current squad is quite bare bones in this regard and adding the 24-year-old would be important going forward.

The player’s comments are quite encouraging as it suggests that he could be tempted by a move abroad. Of course, the Gunners would also have to deal with interest from Milan and not to mention the fee that is being asked by Lille.

Despite what happened during his time with Bayern, Sanches has matured into a better player. And due to his loan stint with Swansea City in the 2017/18 season, has some experience of the Premier League. If Arsenal believe that the Portugal international is the man they want in midfield, they probably will not mind paying what Lille want.
