Arsenal have reportedly received a positive update on three first-team players ahead of this weekend’s north London derby versus Tottenham Hotspur at the Wembley Stadium.
According to Evening Standard, Monreal is set to return to make an instant to first-team training after he was substituted midway through the 5-1 mauling of Everton owing to an illness.
Aside from the Spaniard, Petr Cech is also to make a comeback from a calf problem sustained in the same game.
Danny Welbeck is another player who could make a timely return after suffered a hip injury last month.
Arsenal picked up their first victory against Spurs in four years at the Emirates Stadium earlier in the campaign, and the club will be optimistic of a positive result heading into the Saturday kick-off.
Arsene Wenger’s side have had a fond time at the Wembley Stadium where they have clinched 10 straight triumphs, a run which started in 2014.
And, this offers them a realistic chance of doing their first double over Spurs since the 2013/14 season, where they secured 1-0 victories in both grounds.
A victory this weekend would put the Gunners within two points off fourth-placed Chelsea, and this would ideally put the pressure on the Blues who face West Bromwich Albion on Monday night.
Winning the Europa League is another route towards Champions League qualification, but the challenge this season, in particular, is set to be difficult with the likes of Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and Napoli having dropped to the competition for the second half of the campaign.
