Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is prepared to shatter the world transfer record by a fair margin in order to pursue the services of Monaco’s Kylian Mbappe this summer ahead of Real Madrid.
The 18-year-old striker is regarded as one of the hottest properties in French football following his breakout season last term where he amassed 26 goals across all competitions.
According to The Mirror, Wenger is confident of wrapping up a transfer agreement for the France international following discussions with the player’s father.
The Gunners are not in the Champions League next season, but Wenger has guaranteed the marksman with a regular role which is not a guarantee at Real Madrid.
Arsenal are already closing on the signature of Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette to occupy the centre-forward role, and Mbappe is being seen as the ideal candidate to replace Alexis Sanchez on the left wing.
The club’s hierarchy are fearful of losing Sanchez on a free transfer at the end of next season, and they could, in turn, discuss a transfer agreement with a direct league rival.
Manchester City are leading the pursuit of the Chile international but Wenger is likely to demand one of Kelechi Iheanacho or Sergio Aguero in a proposed deal for the attacker.
Meanwhile, Mbappe has recently dropped a huge hint that he could be making way from the Principality outfit after he changed the bio on his Twitter page, where he removed the reference of AS Monaco.
Arsenal are willing to cough up a sum of around £125m for Mbappe, which would beat the current transfer record held by Paul Pogba’s £89m switch to Manchester United last summer.
