Arsenal ready to make summer move for £17m star, who is dubbed next ‘N’Golo Kante’

Arsene Wenger

Arsenal are reportedly planning a summer raid for Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi, who has displayed his dominance in midfield for the Premier League champions.

The 20-year-old had been previously linked with a move to north London before he made the switch to the Foxes during the winter transfer window.

The Nigeria international has since settled brilliantly in the heart of the midfield ahead of summer recruit Nampalys Mendy, and his performances in recent weeks has led to comparisons with former player N’Golo Kante.

Ndidi netted an absolute piledriver to open his Premier League goalscoring account against Stoke City over the weekend, and according to The Mirror, his showing has not gone unnoticed among England’s elite.

Arsenal are understood to be keeping tabs on the player’s progress alongside rivals Manchester United while Southampton and German club Hamburg also hold an interest in the enforcer.

The former Genk star linked up with the Foxes for a £17m sum in the summer, and despite fears of him potentially leaving the King Power Stadium, manager Craig Shakespeare remains confident that the midfielder will stay in East Midlands for a ‘long time‘.

Ndidi is contracted to the league holders until the summer of 2022, and the Foxes will probably command a hefty package if the player is to push for a move to a bigger club.

Arsene Wenger’s side have missed out on key targets over the past decade or so, and it appears that Ndidi is the latest on the list after the club failed to negotiate for the player ahead of the Foxes.

Arsenal are currently placed sixth in the league standings with 51 points, seven adrift of fourth-placed Manchester City with an extra game to play.
