Arsenal ready to pay Martin Odegaard transfer fee

Martin Odegaard

Arsenal are ready to meet the transfer fee demanded by Real Madrid for Martin Odegaard should the player decide to leave the club, according to a report Mundo Deportivo.

The 22-year-old had a productive loan spell at the Emirates last season. During his short stint, he made three-goal contributions in just nine Premier League starts. Despite the club’s underwhelming performances, he managed to add a creative spark to the team.

The Norway international was poised to start for the Los Blancos in their final pre-season game against AC Milan. But Carlo Ancelotti opted for the recovering Isco.

As per Mundo Deportivo, this has furthered the doubts of Odegaard about staying in Spain, especially when he is guaranteed first-team football at Arsenal week in and week out.

The report also claims that the Gunners remain very attentive to the latest developments of his future at Madrid. Although Ancelotti has assured him of regular minutes, the player is skeptical about this as it will be challenging to surpass Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, and Casemiro. The Spanish outfit have slapped a £50million price tag on him.

Marca are further reporting that Mikel Arteta wants to retain the midfielder and has already communicated the same to the Spanish club and the player.

Arsenal Fever View:

Throughout last season, the Gunners lacked sparks of creativity. While the introduction of Emile Smith Rowe to the senior squad has been a breath of fresh air, the team also needs an experienced midfielder to work in tandem with the youngster.

Odegaard would be a brilliant signing as he can hit the ground running from his first game. The youngster already has adapted to the pace and physicality of the Premier League during his loan spell. His technical and passing ability is second to none. He is also known for his teasing deliveries from set-pieces.

A major reason for the team’s shortcomings last season was the lack of space created for the forwards to run in behind the opposition defense. The Norwegian can provide just that. He often drops deep to receive the ball and plays an accurate long pass. This enables Arteta to exploit the electrifying pace of the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Nicolas Pepe.

It is also important to bear in mind that Odegaard is just 22-years-old. He still has plenty of time to elevate his game and transform into one of the best playmakers. A chance to sign a player of his caliber doesn’t come often, hence Arsenal should utilize the opportunity and secure the signature of this talented player.
