Arsenal make a short trip to face Tottenham on Thursday in a season-defining derby that can have huge ramifications for both teams, so let’s look at the predicted lineup.
The Gunners clinched a crucial win over Leeds United and go into this game with a four-point lead over their arch-rivals. If they get the three points against Spurs, it will confirm their qualification for next season’s Champions League.
Aaron Ramsdale starts in goal and will be keen on getting a clean sheet. Though the team has conceded in the last few games, the keeper has been doing well. Ben White could be preferred over Cedric as the right-back, given the threat of Heung-min Son. Takehiro Tomiyasu is likely to continue on the left flank.
Rob Holding has started the last couple of games and the Englishman will be in line to start this one as well. Along with him will be the presence of Gabriel whose passing can be the launchpad for many attacks.
Mohamed Elneny has stepped up massively for the north Londoners in the absence of Thomas Partey and will be preferred to start again. Granit Xhaka has been impressive as well and these two will have a huge task on their hands to prevent the Spurs attack from clicking.
Arteta needs to take a call on the left-wing with Emile Smith Rowe and Gabriel Martinelli vying for the starting spot. Both are quality players but the presence of the England international could be preferred. Along with him will be the mercurial presence of Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard.
Another player who has stepped up in the past few weeks is forward Eddie Nketiah. Having the youngster lead the line gives the Gunners more impetus in attack. If the front four can get past the midfield regularly, it will create a lot of chances to score.
Arsenal, the manager and the players will be well aware of how much is riding on this game. They have the chance to clinch a place in the top four with a win here, which should give them enough motivation. This is not going to be an easy game and will be a fascinating watch for the neutrals.
