Arsenal officially start their season on Sunday as they face Manchester City in the Community Shield, so let’s take a look at the predicted lineup.
After completing their pre-season with the Emirates Cup, the Gunners now have a chance to get their hands on some silverware. Though it will not make up for losing out on the league, a win would be a huge boost before the Premier League kicks off.
Aaron Ramsdale will start in goal and though there has been some speculation about the keeper’s future, the Englishman remains the number one. As for the full backs, it is going to be Ben White and Jurrien Timber. The new arrival will be preferred for this ability to tuck into midfield.
William Saliba and Gabriel will be play at centre back and they will be tested against a strong City team. They need to be careful of balls over the top as the team’s high press can be negated in this manner.
In midfield, it is likely that Mikel Arteta prefers the solidity of starting with Thomas Partey. This will also allow him to use Declan Rice further up the pitch where his technical skills can come to the fore. Rounding off the midfield will be captain Martin Odegaard who is the one that will string everything together.
There is one important decision that Arteta will have to make when choosing the striker. Does he want the false nine capabilities of Leandro Trossard or the more natural presence of Eddie Nketiah. It will probably be the latter as he can be more of a problem in the box.
On the wings, it will be the usual duo of Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli. These two have taken their game to another level and would want to continue that progress. Their skill and pace will be crucial in creating problems for the City defence.
Arsenal and Arteta will know that this is not going to be an easy game. The defending league champions are as strong as ever and will put up a big fight. If the north Londoners can secure a win and a trophy, it will mean a lot for what lies ahead.
