Arsenal are reportedly ready to activate the release clause of Valencia defender Luis Gaya, according to reports in the Daily Star.
The 19 year old left back, who has a £13.5 million release clause in contract, has been excellent this season and has attracted the attention of top European clubs.
The report states that the North London club are planning to activate the Spanish U-21 international’s release clause. It further states that Real Madrid are also considering a swoop for Gaya but Arsene Wenger is believed to be confident of sealing the deal before tonight’s 11 pm deadline.
Arsene Wenger after their emphatic win against Aston Villa indicated that the Gunners might not make any moves in the final hours. He said:
I don’t think I will be busy. We have done what we wanted and unless there is a huge surprise and somebody calls me not the journalists, an agent – then why not? At the moment, nothing, it’s very quiet.
Gaya is primarily a left back and has turned out to be one of the most promising talents coming out of the La Liga. He is very young which means he has a large scope of improvement, but the release clause is very high for a youngster who has just made the step up to the first team.
We already have two good players competing for a starting spot at left back in the form of Nacho Monreal and Kieran Gibbs, so bringing an inexperienced defender this late in the window doesn’t make much of sense, as the defence is looking pretty full at the moment with atleast 2 players competing for each position.
We are just about 7 hours away from the 11 pm deadline and it seems we are done doing business for January.
Will Arsenal sign anyone before the deadline?
