Arsenal planning new long-term contracts for key first-team duo

Aubameyang

Arsenal are reportedly planning to discuss new contracts with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexander Lacazette, who have hugely contributed to the club’s progress during the current campaign.

Aubameyang and Lacazette has been instrumental towards the club’s showing upfront this term and they have managed a combined tally of 50 goals and 17 assists with just one more game left for the campaign.

As such, the club appear keen on building the team for the coming seasons around them, and The Mail claims that contract discussions with the duo are likely to be scheduled ahead of the summer.

In the past, the north London side have lost the likes of Robin van Persie, Alexis Sanchez and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain during their final year of their contracts and the board are eager to avoid a similar situation with the Gunners frontmen.

Both Aubameyang and Lacazette are presently contracted to the Gunners until the summer of 2021, and it is suggested that they stand to earn a hike on their current salaries with a £250,000-a-week package set to be placed on the negotiation table.

Arsenal recently missed out on the top four by the solitary point in the final gameweek of the Premier League season, but the game provided personal joy for Aubameyang, who managed to share the Golden Boot accolade with 22 goals after bagging a brace.

Both he and Lacazette have found form at the right time especially in the latter stages of the Europa League, and they stand the chance of claiming silverware during the competition’s final against Chelsea in Baku this month.

Should that end up being the case, the north London side would seal a Champions League comeback for next season and that should enhance the club’s prospects of improving the squad with an increased budget this summer.
