Arsenal will reportedly rival the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea in the pursuit of unsettled Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata this summer.
The north London giants have endured an average campaign by their standards this term, and this could see them miss out on the top-four positions for the first time under the Arsene Wenger era.
Both Chelsea and Manchester United have recently been credited with an interest in the Spain international, but according to The Sun, Arsene Wenger’s team are prepared to join the pursuit.
Chilean forward Alexis Sanchez has been playing hardball over contractual negotiations this term, and it is suggested that the club could be tempted to offload the attacker in order to entertain the arrival of Morata.
Morata has openly stated his ambition of a Premier League move this season after having been snubbed by Zinedine Zidane, who has more often than not used Karim Benzema in the centre-forward role.
The Bernabeu graduate had been pursued by manager Arsene Wenger prior to signing Sanchez in the summer of 2014, and there is a huge possibility that he could revive his interest with the promise of regular first-team football.
As it stands, Morata is understood to be leading towards a move to Chelsea with coach Antonio Conte having previously recruited his services for Juventus prior to joining Italy in 2014.
In spite of this, the Gunners do hold a minor advantage with Blues’ technical director looking to scupper Conte’s plans with a move to re-sign Everton ace Romelu Lukaku in the summer.
Arsenal will have to pay up a club-record sum of around £50m if they are to prise away the player from the clutches of their rivals including Manchester United.
Despite being restricted to just 13 league starts, Morata has managed to amass a respectable tally of 15 goals and four assists for the European champions this season.
