Arsenal have already signed West Bromwich youngster Lino Sousa, and the announcement is expected imminently, according to Football.London.
Sousa is considered one of the most talented players to emerge from the West Brom youth academy. He is a left-back and has just turned 17 this month. Despite his age, he has been involved in 16 Under-18 Premier League games for the Baggies, scoring two goals in the process. He also made his Premier League 2 debut last year.
The teenager’s impressive performances at the youth level earned him a call up to the England national team’s training in 2020. He has represented them at the Under-16 level. His rapid growth in recent years has attracted admiring glances from several clubs in the country, but Arsenal have won the race to secure his signature.
As per reports in Football.London, Sousa is eligible to sign his first professional contract after turning 17 today. The defender will become the first signing of this transfer window and an announcement is imminent.
Arsenal academy manager, Per Mertesacker, has identified the left-back spot as a position that needs reinforcements. They have struggled this campaign in the absence of a natural left-footed fullback. The Englishman is expected to ply his trade at the academy level and strengthen that area of the pitch.
