Arsenal are reportedly prepared to reward midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain with a fresh contract following his excellent progress during the ongoing campaign.
The England international has been by far the Gunners’ best player in recent months, and this has urged the club’s hierarchy to act with his contract due to expire in a year’s time.
According to The Mail, the north London giants will seek to commit the player to a new five-year deal which will include a significant rise on his £65,000-a-week wages.
The Gunners have been focused on the contract situations of both Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez over the course of the campaign, but they are now willing to switch the attention towards Oxlade-Chamberlain, who will receive a £100,000 weekly package to secure his future.
The former Southampton graduate had largely been a bit-part player for the Gunners over the years, apart from his first-season glimpse, but he now appears to have made himself a regular in Arsene Wenger’s side.
Initially operating on the wings, Oxlade-Chamberlain has shown his versatility this season after having impressed in central midfield and most recently as the right wing-back in a 3-4-2-1 formation.
The Ox produced a brilliant performance in the FA semi-final win over Manchester City which included an assist, and it appears that he has made the right wing-back position his own with Hector Bellerin having to contend with a place on the bench.
Oxlade-Chamberlain has recently iterated his commitment towards the north London giants, and the proposed extension is likely to end any potential interest from rivals Liverpool.
