Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey could return for Leicester clash

Thomas Partey

Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey could return to action when the Gunners face Leicester City on Saturday, as per the Evening Standard.

The former Atletico Madrid star has been pivotal in the club’s success this season but has been struggling with injuries. He missed their 3-1 defeat to Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium after picking up a muscle injury in training and was also left out of the squad to face Aston Villa.

In absence of the Ghanaian, Mikel Arteta has started new signing Jorginho, who joined the north Londoners from Chelsea in the January transfer window. The Italian has had an impressive start to life at the club, having played a crucial role in helping his side secure three points at Villa Park.

According to a report in Evening Standard, Partey will be hopeful of handing Arteta a fitness boost by being available for the Gunners’ trip to King Power Stadium this weekend.

The midfielder will continue to be assessed by the club this week, but the timescale remains tight on whether he can be included in the squad. The arrival of Jorginho has eased the pressure on fast tracking his return.

Arsenal Fever View:

The games will be coming thick and fast in April for the north Londoners. They travel to Leicester on Saturday before hosting Everton the following Wednesday. With an important run of fixtures coming up, Arteta will be keen on having all his players fit, especially Partey.

The Ghanaian has started all the Premier League games in which he has been available this season, depicting his importance in the squad. The midfield pivot of Partey and Granit Xhaka has been tried and tested, with the pair complementing each others’ playing style.

As the Gunners approach the business end of the season and the league title well within their reach, they will need their colossal midfielder more than ever.

Meanwhile, Arsenal regain their spot at the summit of the Premier League table following their dramatic win at Villa Park. If they continue to play with the same grit and determination, a league triumph is well on the cards.
