With the start of the transfer window, there have been a lot of rumours surrounding the current Arsenal players. In the recent weeks, one such rumor that has been making the rounds is the one that is linking midfielder Granit Xhaka to Italian giants Inter Milan.
There is a suggestion from Swiss outlet RSI Sport that the Italians are keen on taking the midfielder to the San Siro as they look to give new manager Antonio Conte the team he wants.
But when Xhaka was asked about this move, he said that there was no contact between him and Inter. The midfielder was quoted by Italian website fcinternews.it as saying:
“It is (a move to Inter) something that the newspapers have written about.
“There is no truth to it. I have never had contact with Inter. It is just speculation.”
The reports linking Xhaka with a move away from the Emirates was a bit surprising as the 26-year-old has been one of the most important members of the squad. He has firmly established himself in the team and his influence is most visible when he is not playing.
There is also no problem of his contract becoming an issue as he will still be with the North London club for four more years. If a move was to happen, it is clear that the Gunners will be expecting the buying club to pay a big amount.
When Xhaka was signed in the summer of 2016, the Gunners parted with an amount of almost £35m and the fact that he is quite young means that the club should be looking to get a decent profit from his sale.
Having lost the Europa League final to Chelsea, Arsenal once again find themselves in the Europa League. The primary objective is to get back into the Champions League and for that to happen, it is imperative that the Gunners keep hold of their best players.
There is still a long way to go till the end of the transfer window so we will have to wait and see what happens. It will be beneficial to the Gunners if Xhaka remains with the team when the next season begins.
