Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta offered injury updates on Gabriel Jesus and Fabio Vieira after the Gunners’ impressive victory over Chelsea in the Florida Cup final.
Gabriel Jesus has enjoyed an excellent start and continued his fine run of form on Saturday as the club registered an emphatic 4-0 win over their London rivals. He opened the scoring with a sublime chip over Edouard Mendy. The former Manchester City star now has four goals and an assist in just four appearances.
Martin Odegaard, Bukayo Saka, and Albert Sambi Lokonga were the other names on the scoresheet. The north Londoners have had an outstanding pre-season, winning all their games so far.
Arteta had to withdraw Jesus in the second half after the forward sustained a knock earlier in the game. The Spaniard told the media that it was just a precautionary change as he wasn’t keen on gambling with the player’s fitness.
Arsenal boss also provided an update on Fabio Vieira, who is yet to make his debut for the club. He is still recovering from an ankle injury and could be in action soon. According to Arsenal’s official website, Arteta said:
“Yeah, he got a knock in the first half in his quad I think. It wasn’t very comfortable to continue and obviously, we weren’t going to take any risks.
“Fabio will probably be a little bit longer. I think he needs another week or so before he starts with the team. But he’s been working hard and he’s been really unlucky to start his Arsenal career in this way but again, he’s fitting in well.”
Arsenal Fever View:
The Brazilian will, undoubtedly, play an integral role in the squad for the upcoming season. So, it is crucial that he is not rushed back into the fray before fully recovering from the knock.
Jesus will be hoping to be fit for the Gunners’ game against Sevilla on Saturday. It would give him an opportunity to showcase his talent in front of the Emirates Stadium crowd for the very first time.
The north Londoners kickstart the new Premier League campaign with a trip to Selhurst Park to take on Crystal Palace. They would be determined to keep the momentum and secure a positive result against the Eagles.
