Arsenal are eyeing a move for Joaquin Correa and have made an opening bid to sign the Lazio star, as per reports in Solo La Lazio.
The 26-year-old scored 11 goals and provided six assists in 38 appearances across all competitions last season. His recent form has attracted interest from several clubs around Europe with Arsenal and Everton currently leading the race to sign the Argentine star.
According to Solo La Lazio, the north Londoners have already made an opening bid of €20m bid for Correa. The report further claims that the Biancocelesti are demanding a fee of around €35m to sell him which is a sum the Gunners are reluctant to pay.
The former Sevilla player was an integral part of Simone Inzaghi’s setup, but now that the Italian has left the club, Lazio are open to selling their attacker. However, the appointment of new coach Maurizio Sarri has complicated the matters for the North London club. Messaggero(via Football Italia) are reporting that Sarri is keen on not losing their star players and Correa is among those he wants to keep at the Stadio Olimpico.
Arsenal Fever View:
Technical director Edu is an admirer of the Lazio star and is determined to complete the deal after missing out on Correa’s Argentine counterpart Emiliano Buendia, but the North Londoners are nowhere close to meeting the forward’s evaluation. This might require the Gunners to return with an improved offer to at least open negotiations with the Italian club.
Arsenal for a long time were criticized for their lack of ability to defend as a unit. On the contrary, last season the Gunners were ranked the third-best defensive team based on the least goals conceded. Although the club’s defense improved drastically they finished eighth in the league due to an underwhelming campaign by their attackers.
This has driven the Emirates club to sign a player who could provide as well as score goals. Correa fits the bill as he can be deployed as a second striker and also on the flanks with equal effect.
With Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah’s future uncertain, signing the Argentine star would make perfect sense. The Emirates club’s penny-pinching tactics have cost them dearly and they shouldn’t repeat the same mistake this summer.
