Arsenal have reportedly sent in a lucrative contract proposal to Martin Odegaard in order to persuade him to leave Real Madrid, as per the report in Spanish outlet Defensa Central.
The Norwegian hasn’t had a great time at the Spanish capital since making the move from Stromsgodset back in 2015. The midfielder was loaned out on several occasions but failed to establish himself as a starter for Los Blancos. However, he finally showcased his talent for the north London club on loan in the second half of the last season.
Defensa Central are claiming that the midfielder has started to doubt his future at the Spanish capital and is tempted by the Gunners’ lucrative £6 million a year contract offer which is significantly higher than what he is currently earning at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The report further claims that Real Madrid will not let go of their asset for cheap as the player still has two years remaining on his current contract. Los Blancos will only accept Odegaard’s departure if the north London club meets their asking price.
Arsenal Fever View:
Signing Martin Odegaard will certainly take care of Arsenal’s attacking midfield position for years to come, with academy graduate Emile Smith Rowe also putting pen to paper on a long-term contract.
The 22-year-old has showcased his talent during his short stint at the club last season and his impact can be gauged by Arteta’s comments who called the player ‘incredible’ a couple of months back. Signing him on a permanent basis will definitely be a huge statement. The midfielder’s ability to create chances was one of the notable attributes he showcased last season.
The youngster produced 1.4 key passes per game last season for the Gunners, with an astonishing 91% passing completion rate(as per WhoScored) which is outstanding for an attacking midfielder. The Norwegian’s most notable performance came against West Ham United where the north London club secured a 3-3 draw after trailing 3-0 inside the first 35 minutes.
The midfielder’s signature will be a great piece of business from the Emirates club. However, securing his service will not be easy as Los Blancos boss Carlo Ancelotti will not be happy to lose a creative midfielder like him. However, Real Madrid’s financial situation and their intention of cashing in on players to fund the transfer budget could help Arteta’s side to sign the Norwegian this summer.
