Atletico Madrid winger Yannick Fereira Carrasco has emerged as a potential candidate to replace Alexis Sanchez at Arsenal next season, with Bayern also expressing their interest in the attacker. Sanchez, 28, has only a year left on his existing deal, and he is seemingly pushing for an exit in the summer transfer window.
Spanish publication AS claims that the north London club are planning a move for Carrasco, who bagged 14 goals and five assists for the Madrid-based outfit last season.
Carrasco possesses similar pace attributes to Sanchez from the left wing role, and he has managed to score goals occasions when the forward line consisting of Antoine Griezmann has failed to find the net.
As per AS, Bayern Munich are also interested in a summer approach for the Belgian footballer but their decision to move for Sanchez could enhance the Gunners’ pursuit of Carrasco.
The 23-year-old netted the key goal in Monaco’s 3-2 aggregate win over Arsenal in the Champions League knockouts two years ago, and Wenger has since kept a close watch on the player’s proceedings.
One stumbling block towards any potential deal could be Atleti’s transfer ban which is unlikely to be overturned until the turn of the year.
The Champions League semi-finalists can only register their new signings in January, and this could urge them to decline any offers for their attacker.
Wenger has placed an emphasis on strengthening the attacking department this summer with French trio Alexandre Lacazette, Kylian Mbappe and Thomas Lemar on his radar.
Both Mesut Ozil and Sanchez have been reluctant to extend their existing deals beyond 2018, and this has intensified the need for new recruits in the upcoming transfer window.
