As per a report from French outlet Le 10 Sport, Arsenal have launched a transfer bid for Houssem Aouar with their local rivals Tottenham also vying for his signature.
The 23-year-old has become one of Lyon’s most important players as the midfielder’s versatility has allowed him to be used in quite a few positions. Excellent on the ball with an understanding of the game to back it up, the Frenchman is one of the more exciting talents present in Ligue 1.
Le10 Sport claims that Aouar is valued at a price of around £21m but the Gunners had made an offer that was less than what the French giants wanted. And now, the north Londoners are facing competition from their local rivals Spurs.
The report states that Tottenham are interested in the France international as new manager Nuno Espirito Santo admires the Frenchman’s creativity. The Portuguese is not happy with Dele Alli or other options at the club and is looking at the Lyon midfielder.
It further claims that Spurs are looking to hijack a move and the financial condition of Les Gones is such that they are considering selling their players, so a bid of around £17m would be enough to convince the French club.
Arsenal Fever View
For a player of Aouar’s talent, the price being quoted is incredibly low and whoever manages to nab him is going to benefit a lot. Arsenal have a lot to gain from signing the playmaker as it will solve a huge issue that plagued them last season.
The lack of a creative force in the middle proved to be a problem and until the emergence of Emile Smith-Rowe and the arrival of Martin Odegaard, things did not look too good. With the Norwegian back at Real Madrid, the Gunners are looking elsewhere to solve the creative woes at the Emirates.
And there is the added element of losing out on a target to a fierce rival such as Tottenham. Arsenal have been linked with a move for Aouar for some time now and they are in danger of letting him slip through their fingers. They need to wake up and ensure that Spurs do not agree a deal with Lyon first.
