It is no secret that the Gunners really require a winger. Despite having players who can play on the wings, there is no one who qualifies as an out and out winger.
Arsenal seem to have noticed that and tried to rectify it by making a move for Cengiz Under who plays for AS Roma. But, as per reports in Calciomercato, an initial bid of €30m has been rejected by the Italians.
Under has been highly impressive since he made a move to join the Italian side. He is someone who has all the qualities that a top quality winger should have.
The 21-year-old winger is able to dribble at speed and brush past defenders with ease and he has shown in the recent past, that he has an eye for goal as well.
Ever since the Gunners let both Theo Walcott and Alexis Sanchez go, there has not really been anyone to occupy the wings. More recently, Alex Iwobi has shown that he has what it takes to do well on the wings.
But, it would be better for the club to have a winger such as Under. This will give the Gunners attack a different dimension and that will allow them to try out different combinations.
Given how highly rated the Turkish winger is, it is no surprise that this bid was rejected by Roma. It is being suggested that they will not settle for anything less than double of what has been offered by Arsenal.
Another factor that could scupper Arsenal’s move is the interest of German giants Bayern Munich. They are keen on getting Under to replace the ageing Arjen Robben.
If the Gunners are able to get Under, it will be quite a coup for them as they will be getting one of the hottest young talents in the world. The only factor preventing a deal is the cost but if Arsenal are serious about pushing this through, they will have to pay what it takes.
