Arsenal are interested in signing Chelsea attacker Kai Havertz as they look to bolster their squad ahead of next season, according to reports in Daily Mail.
The German who arrived in the summer of 2020 has been a hit and miss during his time at the west of London. But the 24-year-old will always have a place in the history books of the Blues as his goal helped them win the 2021 UEFA Champions League final.
Daily Mail claim that the north Londoners are willing to pay a fee in the region of £60m and the player’s wages of around £200,000-a-week. There is belief that the club’s good relations with their London rivals could help a deal for Havertz. It is also mentioned that the player is keen on the move.
The Athletic have also confirmed that the Gunners have made an approach to the player, but they face competition from Bayern Munich. The German giants who are coached by former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel are keeping an eye on the player’s situation.
Arsenal Fever View:
At first glance, it is not completely clear why Mikel Arteta would want to bring in someone like the German international. The attacker primarily plays as a striker or a winger and the Gunners are already well-stocked in those positions.
But to see understand the possible vision behind this deal, one needs to look at the player’s time in Germany. While his stock may have decreased over the last couple of years, there was a time when at Bayer Leverkusen when the 24-year-old was thought to be the next big thing in German football.
He did all this while playing in a position quite similar to what Martin Odegaard does at the Emirates. And it this versatility that appeals to Arteta who likes to have player that can operate in different positions.
Arsenal need to get some midfield talent and if that is where they see Havertz playing then there could be a big reason as to why this transfer happens. While fans may not be overly excited about this potential deal, there is a great player waiting to blossom in the Chelsea man.
