Arsenal are reportedly facing the prospect of losing midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to rivals Liverpool amid his reluctance to sign a new contract at the Emirates Stadium.
The England international has contributed six goals and 11 assists for the Gunners this term while featuring in a number of positions including right wing-back.
In spite of this, the attacker has yet to commit his long-term future to the north London club after having been in and out of the starting lineup over the past six seasons.
Oxlade-Chamberlain’s current deal is due to expire at the end of next season, and the Gunners could be prepared to cash in on his services rather than losing him on a Bosman in 12 months’ time.
According to The Sun, Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are leading the pursuit of the Three Lions midfielder with the opportunity of plying his trade in the Champions League next season.
The central midfield is understood to be ‘The Ox’s’ preferred position, and the Reds would be willing to offer him the role given his tireless work rate showcased over the past few months.
The Merseysiders are prepared to table a fee of around £20m for the versatile midfielder, who could attract further Premier League interest amid the uncertainty over his Gunners’ future.
Arsenal also have other problems to worry about this summer with key players in the form of Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez, Aaron Ramsey and Kieran Gibbs approaching the final year of their respective contracts.
The 23-year-old may end up playing his last game in the Gunners shirt this weekend when they take on recently-crowned English champions Chelsea in the FA Cup final.
