Arsenal have launched a bid to sign Italian center back Daniele Rugani on a loan deal but as per the latest reports in Metro, Juventus have rejected this offer from the Gunners.
The North London club tabled an offer of a two-year loan deal with an option to buy, however the Italian club have refused the deal due to injury problems that captain Giorgio Chiellini is facing at the moment.
Thus, they are not very comfortable letting go of someone who would be used as cover for the captain.
The Gunners have shifted their focus to the center of defense after they splashed a club record £72m on winger Nicolas Pepe who recently joined Arsenal from French club Lille.
Those at the Emirates seems to have realized that the defense needs to be looked at as well and are hence in the market for Rugani for whom they offered a two-year loan deal.
The need for a new center back has increased due to the situation that is going on around captain Laurent Koscielny. He is trying to move back to France and is most likely not going to play another game for the London club.
Apart from this the Gunners are also looking at moving on Shkodran Mustafi who has proven to be too error prone in his stint at the Emirates. And with Rob Holding slowly making his way back from a long-term injury, the club feels that another center back is required at the club.
Arsenal did sign William Saliba from Saint Etienne but the talented youngster will be sent back on loan to France so the Gunners need someone who can play for the club now. In this regard Rugani seemed liked the right fit.
His chances for playing in the Juventus defense would have reduced after they splashed the cash of former Ajax captain Matthijs de Ligt. And if not for the injury problems that Chiellini has, he could well have been on his way to the Emirates.
The deadline for the transfer window is the 8th of August which isn’t very far away. If the Gunners are to make any kind of move, it will have to be done quickly. There is already a lot of optimism going into the new season and adding a new player like Rugani would have certainly increased that.
